Membership

The definition of a TEKEL member is based on the basic definition of the international science park concept (see, for example, www.iasp.ws). Three key functions are acknowledged in the Finnish science park concept:

  1. business development
  2. national and regional development programmes and projects, and the organisation of their planning and implementation
  3. creation and development of business premises and working environments and science park services.

TEKEL science park organisations carry out the above-mentioned functions in their own areas. Through the member network, the functions of science park activity effectively cover the whole of Finland.

Applying for membership

Membership of the association can be applied for in a free-form letter addressed to the association’s board of directors. This letter should outline the points mentioned in the description of the science park concept.

In the process of considering membership, the board acquaints itself with the application and appoints a so-called ‘sponsor’, who, together with the TEKEL’s Executive Director, takes a closer look at the activities of the applicant and then reports back to the board.

Further information about matters concerning membership and applying for it can be provided by TEKEL’s Executive Director, Jaakko Helenius (see Contact Information).
