Incubation Service Packaging Won the Best Practice of the Year Prize of TEKEL

Technopolis Ventures Ltd. obtained the first Best Practice prize from Finnish Science Park Association TEKEL for development of incubation service packaging. The prize was announced on Friday 28.4.2006 at Helsinki.

– The competition sought the best practice in developing of the Finnish science parks. This practice is renewing, value adding, transformable – clearly a best practice. The competition also promotes the innovative work done at science parks describes Kyösti Jääskeläinen, Executive Director of TEKEL.

Technopolis Ventures has launched the new concept in 2005. The business incubator serves both new and old customers and acts as a business developer as well as a mediator for services. The essential idea is the packaging of expertise services and having various projects and financing alternatives behind the business incubation process.

– Development and business incubation services are an important part of the science park concept. Service packaging makes these services more visible both for customers and financiers. Packaged services are also easier to replicate and transfer to other science parks says Keith Silverang, CEO of Technopolis Ventures. According to Silverang, the services developed at Technopolis Ventures, Espoo, are already utilized in business incubators at Lappeenranta and Oulu. In the future some of them will be transferred to other science parks through Yrke projects which aim to improve the national business development companies.

BodyGuard, PitchCamp, ToolKit, MoneyTalks… Services have new and distinctive names. The services behind the names have been finetuned at Technopolis Ventures during the last year and a half.

Silverang tells that service packaging has improved both the qualitative and the quantitative results of the business incubation. A concrete example of this is the increased deal flow. According to the client surveys of both Technopolis Group and Technopolis Ventures, the clients in the incubation program rank the overall concept higher.

The Finnish Science Park Association TEKEL Best Practice competition was arranged first time this year. The best practice proposals were evaluated by the board of TEKEL.

Since 2000 Technopolis Ventures has represented Helsinki Region in the European Union PAXIS program, which is improving and disseminating best practices. In 2004 Technopolis Ventures received Excellence in Innovation Transfer award from the EU. The award was granted for the development of best practices and the effective cooperation in their implementation in Europe.
