The pace of progress at the Oulu-based Sensinode Ltd is so great that people are holding on to their hats. The company’s field of business, designing wireless sensor networks and OEM products, is in a transitional phase, and the company is but a few steps away from internationalising.

– Our team is currently going at full speed ahead. Everyone wants to co-operate when you are living through a stage in which the pace of development and growth is enormous, says Zach Shelby, Chief Technical Officer at Sensinode Ltd.
Sensinode Ltd is an incubator company from Technopolis Ventures Oulutech Ltd.2007 was a decisive year from a point of view of building the company’s future. Sensinode managed to get competent management, business angels and other sources of finance involved in its business. Next,strong investment in internationalisation is in the pipeline.
– Europe is our main market area, but our development tools are sold all over the world, including the USA. Our working team here will grow as well. We are constantly seeking new people to join our team – if you know anyone who is interested, laughs Shelby.
The latest research data from the field
The international team has been the company’s trump card from the very beginning. Another of the company’s strengths has been a strong pan-European network of research units in wireless radio technology. In its operations, the company can take advantage of the latest research data from the field.
– At this moment, our customers are universities and research centres all over the world. With the new product coming out in 2008, telecommunications operators will also become our customers, says Shelby.Thrill of growth & mental support
Such rapid progress has brought with it many challenges. The Technology Incubator has supported Sensinode in its pressure to grow.
– Technopolis Ventures Oulutech has helped in networking and procuring sources of funding, but has also provided important psychological support. We've had good feedback from them just at times when we ourselves were lacking self-confidence, says Shelby gratefully.
The growth potential of Sensinode Ltd is considered to be vast. According to forecasts, the market for wireless sensor networks is growing by hundreds of percent per year. Shelby too is optimistic:
– At this moment, the greatest challenge is to keep up with change, to do things in the right order and to find the right specialists for the team. But these are all positive challenges, observes Shelby.
– As long as we get through our period of growth, the future looks bright.
